This Paddle Canada SUP Instructor Professional Development Clinic is for SUP instructors to maintain their instructor status with Paddle Canada.

Maintaining your SUP instructor certification allows you to offer Paddle Canada sanctioned skills courses and to use the Paddle Canada name and logo, per the Paddle Canada Logo & Trademark Policy. SUP Instructors have until December 31st of the fourth year from certification to successfully complete a Paddle Canada Professional Development clinic.

Provided your annual membership is maintained, the certification period of four years is automatically renewed after taking this clinic.

Topics covered during this clinic include:

  • Paddle Canada program changes and administration updates.
  • Skills update, instructional techniques update.
  • Skills review and practice.
  • Personal skills feedback and evaluation.
  • Teaching practice, feedback and evaluation.

Clinic runs from 10:00AM – 4:00PM. Please arrive about 15 minutes early, so that you are unloaded, changed, and ready to begin at the start time. Arriving late will cut into your instructional time, and that of others on the course.

Please note: I don’t regularly schedule this clinic so please contact me if you’re interested and we can arrange a date to run a clinic for you.

Prerequisites

  • Current Paddle Canada Instructor membership.
  • Paddle Canada Basic or Advanced Flatwater SUP Instructor skills certification.

Course Cancellation: It is rare that we cancel a session due to weather considerations however we will do so if, in our judgement, the conditions are dangerous or are likely to present a poor learning environment.

Gear and Clothing

Please note that the course does not include any technical paddling gear, personal clothing, food, or travel. Instructors usually own their own gear. However, if you don’t have your own paddleboard and related gear please let us know and we can assist in finding you a suitable rental for you to use for the course.

  • Stand up paddleboard, paddle, leash, PFD, whistle, throwbag
  • Cold water immersion clothing is a must. As a minimum we recommend a shorty style neoprene wetsuit or one-piece neoprene paddle top combined with neoprene shorts or leggings. And that’s for warm weather conditions.

  • Insulating layers, weatherproof shell layers.
