Join our weekly training group

We welcome anyone to join our weekly training group. These evening sessions are targeted towards paddlers who have already learned the basics and are interested in developing and improving their technique and overall fitness through regular high-intensity training.

The training group sessions will start on Tuesday, May 18 from 7-9pm and will run until at least the end of September. Each session will take place at the Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre – 80 Churchill Drive. However, we may meet at different locations depending on water levels and weather. Specific details will be sent out to participants each week.

Manitoba Paddling AssociationYou can purchase a single session for $10 or a season pass for $225, which also includes a membership to the Manitoba Canoe and Kayak Centre. Benefits of membership includes:

  • Use of club paddleboards, paddles, PFDs, etc.
  • Use of club canoes and kayaks
  • Discount on board storage

Prerequisites: Successful completion of a Basic SUP Skills course or equivalent experience. Contact us if you have any questions.
Age/Physical Requirements: Participants must be at least 16 years old and should be in reasonable physical condition.

Gear and Clothing

You will need to bring your own personal paddling gear and clothing for the session:

  • Paddleboard, paddle, leash, fin, PFD, and signal whistle
  • GPS watch (optional) such as a Garmin Forerunner for programming workouts
  • For spring conditions: cold water immersion clothing is a must. As a minimum we recommend a shorty style neoprene wetsuit or one-piece neoprene paddle top combined with neoprene shorts or leggings.
  • For warmer season/conditions: quick-dry or warm-when-wet outdoor athletic gear. Think paddle tops, rashguards, breathable hiking or running layers, merino wool, boardshorts, athletic swimwear.
  • Insulating layers, weatherproof shell layers.
  • Towel and warm, dry change of clothes (just in case!)
  • Secure protective footwear such as water shoes, paddle shoes, neoprene paddle/surf booties or sport sandals.
  • Headwear: sun hat, toque (warm hat), sunglasses with straps.
  • Any personal first aid, medications, sunscreen etc.
  • High energy snacks, drinking water.
