Flatwater SUP Instructor

Learn to teach others the wonders of stand up paddleboarding! The Paddle Canada Flatwater Stand Up Paddleboard Instructor courses are the Canadian certification standard. Learning styles, teaching techniques, and practice teaching sessions are emphasized. We introduce the basics of group management, decision-making, risk assessment, organizing and presenting effective on-water lessons, detecting and correcting common challenges with strokes and rescues, and providing meaningful feedback to students.

Paddle Canada offers two different flatwater SUP instructor certifications: “Basic” and “Advanced.” The Basic SUP instructor course serves as the entry point into the Paddle Canada SUP Instructor program. As such, the basics of instruction receive considerable emphasis during this course. The Advanced SUP instructor course is the next level up in the Paddle Canada program and involves considerably greater skill performance, knowledge and confidence with instruction and personal feedback to clients.

We often run both courses simultaneously and successful candidates can be certified at either level. You should register for the certification which you are most qualified for. If you’re unsure, contact us and we will help you determine which certification is best for you.

This course is also ideal for anyone interested in running SUP Yoga classes. The only additional requirement is that you have Yoga Instructor Certification from a recognized and accredited organization. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.

Please note: This is a skill testing course. Candidates must meet the minimum course standard to be certified as instructors. Successful candidates will be able to instruct within the Paddle Canada Flatwater Paddleboard programs Paddle Canada Basic and/or Advanced Instructor Certification.
