Learn to teach others the wonders of stand up paddleboarding! The Paddle Canada Flatwater Stand Up Paddleboard Instructor courses are the Canadian certification standard. Learning styles, teaching techniques, and practice teaching sessions are emphasized. We introduce the basics of group management, decision-making, risk assessment, organizing and presenting effective on-water lessons, detecting and correcting common challenges with strokes and rescues, and providing meaningful feedback to students.
Paddle Canada offers two different flatwater SUP instructor certifications: “Basic” and “Advanced.” The Basic SUP instructor course serves as the entry point into the Paddle Canada SUP Instructor program. As such, the basics of instruction receive considerable emphasis during this course. The Advanced SUP instructor course is the next level up in the Paddle Canada program and involves considerably greater skill performance, knowledge and confidence with instruction and personal feedback to clients.
We often run both courses simultaneously and successful candidates can be certified at either level. You should register for the certification which you are most qualified for. If you’re unsure, contact us and we will help you determine which certification is best for you.
This course is also ideal for anyone interested in running SUP Yoga classes. The only additional requirement is that you have Yoga Instructor Certification from a recognized and accredited organization. Feel free to contact us if you have any questions.
Please note: This is a skill testing course. Candidates must meet the minimum course standard to be certified as instructors. Successful candidates will be able to instruct within the Paddle Canada Flatwater Paddleboard programs Paddle Canada Basic and/or Advanced Instructor Certification.

I honestly don't think I could've asked for a better instructor for this course. Right from the start, Brad was super friendly and made it incredibly easy to feel relaxed yet focused. Not only is he a skilled paddler, but his teaching style is exactly what you need for this learning environment; professional and focused, yet chill and fun. I'd recommend him in a heartbeat and am looking forward to taking further training with him in the future. Thanks again Brad!!! You rock 🙂

I thought the weekend was challenging as there was a lot of course material to cover. A lot of the material was new, especially the advanced portion of the course. However, Brad ensured that we received all information ahead of time to plan for the weekend. He also answered all questions in regards to the course material prior to meeting. Brad clearly outlined our expectations on the first evening. Any questions we had, he was able to answer them. As we, the students, were expected to teach a lot of material over the weekend, on both basic and advance technique, Brad went over every assignment in detail. His demonstrations were simple but highly technical. Brad ensured he gave constructive feedback to everyone and never once did I feel that we rushed through any topic.
As for our teaching assignments, Brad had everyone give constructive feedback which helped acknowledge how others perceived your lesson. He also gave tips on how to go about improving your lesson.
Though it was a challenging weekend, I have never had so much fun on the water. We had such a great group and everyone had a great time. Everyone got to know each other and we all helped each other out. I had a great experience and would recommend Brad to anyone.
